Effective Extraction

The Blender Method is the modern alternative to the traditional kneading method. It is faster, less labor-intensive, and still provides a very good extraction.

Required Materials

Essential
  • Stand Mixer / Blender

At least 500 watts, better 1000+ watts

  • Kava Root Powder (Medium Grind)

    20-40g depending on experience

  • Filter Bag

Nut milk bag or fine sieve

  • Warm Water

    400-600ml, hand warm (35-45°C)

Important for Best Results
  • Coconut Oil or Coconut Milk

1 tablespoon – essential for good extraction!

  • Kitchen Scale

    For consistent dosing

  • Large Bowl

    For catching during filtering

Step-by-Step Instructions

1
Prepare Ingredients
2 Min

Measure and prepare all ingredients.

  • Weigh Kava powder (20-40g depending on experience)
  • Measure water (400-600ml)
  • Prepare 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or coconut milk
  • Set aside filter bag and catching bowl
Tip: The fat is particularly important in the Blender Method as it stabilizes the emulsion.
2
Add to Blender
1 Min

Fill all ingredients into the stand mixer.

  • First, pour in the water (hand warm, 35-45°C)
  • Then add the Kava powder
  • Finally, add the fat (coconut oil/coconut milk)
  • Seal the lid tightly!
Tip: Warm water improves extraction. Cold water works too, but is less effective.
3
Blend
3-4 Min

Blend on the highest setting for maximum extraction.

  • Set the mixer to the highest setting
  • Blend continuously for 3-4 minutes
  • The mixture will become frothy and milky-brown
  • Take short breaks if overheating occurs
Tip: Longer blending = stronger Kava. But be careful: some mixers overheat after 4+ minutes.
4
Filter
3 Min

Pour the mixture through a filter bag.

  • Position the filter bag over a large bowl
  • Slowly pour in the blender mixture
  • Squeeze and wring out the bag
  • Press firmly several times until little liquid remains
Tip: This step is important! Without filtering, you will drink coarse fibers that can cause nausea.
5
Serve
Immediately

Enjoy your Blender Kava!

  • Pour into bowls or cups
  • Optional: Chill briefly in the refrigerator for cold Kava
  • Drink in one go ('Chug')
  • Have a chaser (fruit) ready
Tip: Blender Kava may taste slightly more bitter than traditionally prepared Kava. A good chaser helps!

Expert Tips

Ice Cube Trick

Add 2-3 ice cubes to the blender. This cools the mixture while blending and prevents overheating during longer blend times.

Double Filtering

Filter twice – first through a coarse bag, then through a fine bag. This results in a smoother Kava without sediment.

Lecithin Boost

A teaspoon of sunflower lecithin improves the emulsion and can increase the bioavailability of Kavalactones.

Batch Preparation

Prepare larger quantities and store the filtered Kava in the refrigerator. Keeps for 2-3 days. Shake well before drinking!
